SUNY Online Course Quality Review (OSCQR) Webinar Series
SUNY Online Teaching developed an online course design rubric and process that addresses both the instructional design and accessibility of an online course that is openly licensed for anyone to use and adapt. The aim of the SUNY Online Course Quality Review Rubric (OSCQR) and Process is to support continuous improvements to the quality and accessibility of online courses, and can be used formatively with new online faculty to help guide, inform, and influence the design of new online courses, or to support the review and refresh of existing and mature online courses. The award winning OSCQR rubric is non-evaluative, flexible, customizable, and designed to be used in a variety of online course quality assurance approaches, from an informal online faculty self-assessment, to more formal program-level larger-scale online faculty development activities and initiatives.
This series of workshops prepares online faculty, online instructional designers, and online administrators with the information, tools, and resources necessary to design and tailor an approach to address the quality of the design and accessibility of online courses systematically and consistently.

Identify the essential elements of Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI)

Apply the OSCQR Rubric to assess and improve RSI within online and blended courses

Evaluate use cases for practical, easy-to-use tools to assist in cultivating engagement

Develop a plan of action to drive higher quality interactions and experiences

Provide an overview and orientation to an implementation planning framework that they can customize and use to develop a comprehensive online quality assurance implementation plan.

Provide an opportunity to think about and discuss individual institutional contexts. Key questions will include: What model of course review will work best for the scope, scale, and context of your initiative? What is your timeline? Who are your stakeholders? What policies and institutional organizational structures or procedures have to be taken into account for any aspect of your initiative?

Provide access to and overview of the OSCQR tools and resources that can be used to implement and track larger-scale online course quality initiatives. These include the OSCQR dashboard, the OSCQR rubric, and the OSCQR resource site.

Receive an implementation plan template to create their own individualized plan.

Complete the full OSCQR process of online course quality review and refresh using the OSCQR rubric to improve your own online course.

Submit as evidence: (1) A completed self-assessment, and the constructive action plan used to refresh your own course. (2) A one-page (250-500 word) reflection on the OSCQR review and refresh process, including what was improved in the course as part of the process, and what you learned from conducting the OSCQR online course review and refresh process. The process can be completed independently, using the http://oscqr.suny.edu companion resources , or with the assistance of your campus online instructional designer, or other campus resources.

Complete one (1) full OSCQR online course quality review and refresh using the OSCQR rubric, to improve at least one online, or blended course (other than your own).

Submit as evidence: (1) The completed course review (peer, ID, etc.), and the constructive action plan used to refresh the online course improved (other than your own), and (2) A completed self-assessment, and the constructive action plan used to refresh your own online course (if the course improved was your own course). (3) a one-page (250-500 word) reflection on the OSCQR review and refresh process, including what was improved in the online course as part of the process, and what you learned from conducting the OSCQR online course review and refresh process.

Must complete Webinar 1: Introduction to OSCQR (Self-Assessment) or Webinar 2: Become an OSCQR Online Course Reviewer

Complete five (5) full online course quality review and refreshes using the OSCQR rubric that result in improvements to at least five (5) online or blended courses (other than your own).

Submit as evidence: (1) The completed course reviews (peer, ID, etc.), and the constructive action plans used to refresh the five online courses. (2) a two-page (500 -1000 word) reflection on the five (5) OSCQR review and refresh processes conducted, including what was improved in the five online courses as part of the process, and what you learned from conducting the OSCQR online course review and refresh process.
