Microsoft Security Update – Sentinel and Defender for Cloud

Microsoft Security Specialist, Steve Scholz will discuss the topic of Sentinel and Defender for Cloud. During the call Steve will illustrate opportunities for ways customers can better manage finances and unlock additional savings. Microsoft is now offering pre-purchase options for both Microsoft Defender for Cloud (MDC) and Microsoft Sentinel that will significantly reduce your expenses on Microsoft Defender for Cloud and Microsoft Sentinel.

Sentinel

  • Microsoft Sentinel is a scalable, cloud-native security information and event management (SIEM) solution that provides intelligent security analytics and threat intelligence across your enterprise. It offers a comprehensive solution for security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR). Microsoft Sentinel is a cloud-native SIEM that delivers an intelligent and comprehensive solution for SIEM and SOAR. It provides cyberthreat detection, investigation, response, and proactive hunting, with a bird’s-eye view across your enterprise. It natively incorporates proven Azure services, like Log Analytics and Logic Apps, and enriches your investigation and detection with AI.

Defender for Cloud

  • Microsoft Defender for Cloud is a comprehensive cloud-native application protection platform (CNAPP) designed to secure cloud-based applications from various cyber threats and vulnerabilities. It combines several key capabilities to provide robust security for your cloud environments: From your company
    • DevSecOps Solution: Microsoft Defender for Cloud unifies security management at the code level across multicloud and multiple-pipeline environments. This helps in incorporating good security practices early during the software development process
    • Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM): It surfaces actions that you can take to prevent breaches by identifying and addressing security misconfigurations and vulnerabilities in your cloud environment
    • Cloud Workload Protection Platform (CWPP): It provides specific protections for servers, containers, storage, databases, and other workloads, ensuring comprehensive security coverage
    • Agent-Based and Agentless Approaches: Defender for Cloud combines the breadth and depth of agentless and agent-based approaches, providing instant visibility over critical posture issues and advanced detection, investigation, and response capabilities.
SUNY Tech Talks – August 2024
On July 19th, a critical outage attributed to CrowdStrike led to a widespread disruption of Microsoft services, causing significant operational challenges for businesses reliant on Microsoft technology. This incident highlighted vulnerabilities even within top-tier cybersecurity frameworks. In the face of this disruption, many affected organizations turned to Veeam for its robust backup and recovery solutions.
Veeam’s System Engineer, Christian Latoja, (who many SUNY Campuses have already worked with) will discuss how Veeam’s technology facilitated swift data restoration and continuity for numerous customers, helping them to quickly recover from this/any outage.

Unlocking Energy Efficiency: Leveraging Technology to Meet BuildSmart 2025 Goals at SUNY

Teams Unified Communications with AudioCodes – SUNY Digital Transformation Funding and Participating Institution Agreement (PIA)

SUNY Teams Calling Program: The program is intended to provide SUNY campuses with an opportunity to pilot the use of Teams Calling as an employee’s phone for a select group of campus users (to be determined by each participating campus.) The program will leverage the SUNY-hosted AudioCodes Session Border Controller (SBCs) to enable the Microsoft Teams environments at multiple SUNY campuses to share the infrastructure and services to place and receive phone calls from Teams to the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
