Program Areas
There are a wide variety of SUNY Center for Professional Development (CPD) programs available for faculty, instructional designers, librarians, student success and support professionals, business operations staff, information technology staff, campus leadership, and others in administrative roles in higher education. Programs are designed to meet identified needs of SUNY campuses in alignment with SUNY strategic priorities. The CPD relies on SUNY communities of practice to design and deliver these programs.

Programs are delivered in a variety of formats:
- Asynchronous Online Courses: Learners are never expected to log into the course at a specific time. Courses have weekly deadlines and interactive assignments.
- Synchronous Online Courses: Learners complete all course activities through participating in a series of scheduled online meetings.
- Combined Asynchronous and Synchronous Online: Learners are required to participate in scheduled online meetings and also complete assignments on their own time.
- Self-Paced Online Courses: Course assignments are completed within a certain amount of time but there are no other deadlines or expectations of interaction with other learners.
- Hybrid Online and In-Person: Learners are required to attend activities on specific days and times both in-person and online.
- In-Person Workshops, Academies, and Institutes: All course assignments and activities take place through travelling to a specific location for a set amount of time.
Some of these offerings are part of certificate programs aimed at equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in higher education. The courses in these programs are delivered online, with most being asynchronous, ensuring they are engaging and interactive. Upon completion, participants receive a digital badge that highlights their acquired expertise.
