Introduction to OSCQR Self-Paced Course
The Introduction to OSCQR Self-Paced Course provides a comprehensive introduction to the SUNY Online Course Quality Review (OSCQR) rubric and review process. Designed for faculty, instructional designers, and peer reviewers, this fully online, self-paced course prepares participants to review and continuously improve the quality of online courses with OSCQR.
While open to anyone interested in learning about OSCQR, the course offers two learning pathways geared towards:
- Faculty Self-Assessment
- Instructional Designer/Peer Reviewer

By the end of the course, all participants will be able to utilize the OSCQR rubric, apply quality standards to online courses, and employ the refresh process to support continuous course improvement. The course serves as a self-paced alternative to the OSCQR Self-Assessment and Reviewer webinars, and upon completion, it presents an optional opportunity to submit materials for OSCQR certification.
This self-paced course includes two pathways by role (Self-assessment or ID/Peer Reviewer), with five instructional modules, and can be completed in approximately two hours:
- Module 1: Introduction to OSCQR
- Required for all learners
- An Introduction and overview of the OSCQR rubric and review process.
- Module 2: Accessing & Navigating OSCQR rubric and related tools.
- Required for all learners
- A walkthrough of the OSCQR rubric and related tools.
- Module 3: Applying the Standards
- Required for all learners
- Application of the OSCQR to review course elements and inform revisions.
- Module 4: Feedback for Action Plan
- Required for ID/Peer Review (Optional for Self-Assesment)
- Strategies for providing supportive actionable feedback to others.
- Module 5: Review to Refresh & Repeat
- Required for all learners
- Action-plan implementation and continuous improvement with OSCQR.

Course Availability
The SUNY Online Introduction to OSCQR Self-Paced Course will be available through the SUNY Center for Professional Development as a pilot for Fall 2026. Enrollment will be processed weekly on Mondays from September through October 2026. Registrations received after a weekly enrollment deadline will be processed the following Monday.
Once enrolled, participants will have access to the course through December 2026.
The course is free for all participants, while optional certification requires a nominal $50 fee for non-SUNY participants.
