Program Development: The CPD relies on the expertise of faculty and staff on SUNY campuses and elsewhere for the design and delivery of our programs. This model provides the opportunity to work directly with the populations we serve at all stages of the professional development process. We do this through engaging with communities of practice (CoP) to design and deliver our programs. We also help support conferences, events and other gatherings sponsored by these and other CoPs. Some of the CoPs we have worked with to create our programs include:
- Assessment & Institutional Effectiveness: In collaboration with the SUNY Council on Assessment (SCOA), the CPD sponsors two assessment certificate programs, an Assessment Leadership course and mentoring program, and day long “drive-in” regional meetings designed to help SUNY campuses keep up to date with assessment initiatives.
- Faculty Development: For those involved with supporting teaching and learning and faculty/staff development efforts the CPD sponsors conferences, meetings, and webinars. The faculty development community of practice also has a very active group in Workplace open to anyone in SUNY.
- Innovative Instruction: The CPD provides administrative support for the SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grant (IITG) program which promotes research and foster understanding of how new technologies support academic excellence and student success. The CPD issues the call for proposals in the online grant management system (Foundant), chairs the Innovative Instruction Research Council (IIRC), works with reviewers and the Provost office on award determinations and communications, maintains the IITG Website, promotes the program, collects grant outcome reports, and maintains an IITG Community of Practice.
- Library Services: The CPD works with SUNY Open Educational Resource (OER) Services on professional development programs including OER Course Design workshops, community courses, and the Faculty Guild pilot project.
- Research & Scholarship: To assist SUNY faculty and staff with their research and scholarship, the CPD offers the 12 week online course “Grants and Proposals: If you write it, they will fund!” three times a year. The SUNY Research Foundation offers scholarships for the Grants course and has collaborated with the CPD on programming.
