SUNY CPD Hosts First DCI!

For three days in September the SUNY CPD hosted a Department Chair Institute (DCI)! Thirteen SUNY campuses were represented at the event.

The DCI is a hands-on, "nuts and bolts" workshop designed so participants can explore ways of leading and managing academic departments and get the skills and insider information today's Department Chairs need to better manage the services they provide and are accountable for.

Facilitators Dr. Kay Weiss and Charles Miller, M.A. from The Company of covered topics such as: working with different levels of the organization, managing time, leading change, facilitating group processes, hiring and evaluating faculty, reviewing and renewing programs. Here's what one of the participants had to say:

I have a tool box full of strategies now. Depending on the situation, I can pull a tool out to address an issue. Both Kay and Charles presented a well-oiled presentation. Every D.C./Manager should attend! T. Kossmann, HVCC
